Mountain Bike Capital U.S.A. – Grand County, Colorado
If you’re nervous about going through ski withdrawal, we have a solution for you. Mountain Biking!
Did you know Winter Park, Colorado is known as, ‘Mountain Bike Capital U.S.A.?’ Home to over 600 miles of Cross-country Mountain biking trails, two lift-served downhill bike parks, the only lift-served cross-country trails in the state, and countless bike events and races throughout the year, this area has something for every type and level of biker.
Mountain Biking – Cross-country vs. Downhill:
Cross-country is a great starting point for beginner mountain bikers. Cross-country trails range from beginner trails with little slope to more intense black diamond trails complete with significant drops, twists and turns, and uneven terrain riders must maneuver over.
Downhill Mountain biking is for more advanced and extreme riders. Downhill trails require specialized bikes with higher clearance, more rugged frames, and full suspension. Riders wear full-faced helmets, goggles, and many use body armor for added safety.
Equipment Rentals: The equipment you will need will depend on the type of mountain biking you are doing. As you might guess, a helmet is always recommended. Everything from bikes, protective gear, helmets, and body armor can be rented from a variety of shops in the area.
