Whether you live in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, or are visiting for a few days, the Rocky Mountain National Park is a gem you should definitely take the time to explore. Here is a list of five things we recommend checking out!
Take a Hike:
The Park boasts over 355 miles of trails just waiting to be explored. From scenic walks, to high peak climbs, you’ll be able to find the perfect hike to satisfy everyone in your group. If you’re in search of the perfect trek, ask a ranger or read this list of popular hikes.
Wildlife:
The Rocky Mountains are home to hundreds of species of wildlife ranging from garter snakes and pikas (small mammals in the rabbit family) to moose, mountain lions, elk, bears, and bighorn sheep. The park is bounding with wildlife, because it is a natural safe haven, protected from hunters. Whether you’re hiking, picnicking, or driving through, chances are you’ll see at least a few species to check off your list! Don’t forget your binoculars…you’ll want to watch all animals from a safe distance!
Fly Fishing:
Rocky Mountain National Park is teaming with mountain lakes and streams filled with native trout just waiting to be caught! 48 of the 156 lakes within the park have naturally reproducing populations of fish. The other 108 lakes are stocked each year with the four species of native trout, (brown, rainbow, brook, and cutthroat). Camping:
The National Park is a great place to pitch a tent (or park your RV) and do some camping! Whether in one of the five official campgrounds, or backwoods-style, you’re guaranteed to enjoy your stay in the park. Drive One of the Highest Paved Roads in the U.S.
If you’re in search of a scenic drive with breathtaking views that takes you to 12,000+ feet in elevation, drive Trail Ridge Road. Trail Ridge Road is the main road that connects Grand Lake, Colorado with Estes Park. This route is sure to amaze.
