The three board members that were up for recall on Feb. 17 retained their seats by an almost 2 to 1 margin and have kept the rec center project on-time and on-budget. The center is currently scheduled to open to the public this December.
The Fraser Valley Rec Foundation continues to receive grants for improvements at the new facility. As of March 1, the organization had raised over $900,000. The money rasied will go toward an indoor water slide, a separate lap pool, an indoor walking/running track, a whirlpool, and a play structure in the leisure pool.
In addition, the Grand County Commissioners have announced they will provide $40,000 for a new, fully accessible outdoor playground at the rec center. The "Boundless Playground" features ramps and transfer stations that allow disabled children to use the equipment and interact with other children.
